Homemade Hamburger Buns
Get ready for grilling season with these easy homemade hamburger buns! Perfect for this time of year & with so many less ingredients than store bought & ready in about 30 minutes!
Recipe
- 2 tablespoons yeast (good organic option here!)
- 1 cup warm water
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/3 cup avocado oil
- 3.5 cups flour (we use AP unbleached organic from Costco)
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 egg
Egg wash – 1 egg yolk and splash of water whisk together
Directions
- preheat oven to 425F
- whisk yeast and warm water together til nice and bubbly, let sit about a minute
- then add oil and sugar and wait about 5 minutes until frothy and doubled in size
- add 1 egg, salt and flour to mixture
- knead for 3-4 minutes until combined (can use mixer or by hand on a floured surface)
- dough should be tacky but not overly sticky – if too sticky you can add a bit more flour
- cut into 8 pieces (I measured each about 120g-130g chunks), roll into balls and add to a parchment lined baking sheet & let sit under a tea towel for 10 minutes
- coat in egg wash (1 egg yolk, 1 tbsp water) and sprinkle with everything bagel seasoning or seasoning of choice
- bake 425F for 10-15 minutes until fluffy & golden brown
