Building a goose pond

Links and tips for building a quick drain pond for your ducks/geese

Recently we shared about draining our 125gallon goose pond in 30 seconds with our 4 inch drain pipe that hubby installed. Here is what he did-

We picked up a pond from Lowe’s Home Improvement. They have a few options and then more available online. We went with the 125 gallon that they had in store. Then he looked for the largest bulkhead fitting he could find without custom ordering at the local irrigation supply store. He went with a 3” bulkhead. Then he expanded out to a 4” drain. All of the fittings and piping used were schedule 40 pvc.

He inserted the gate valve close to the pond so there was less volume to fill each time we refreshed the pond.

Then to cover the big hole we used a shower drain cover that fits a 3” drain and screwed that into the bulkhead. He purchased this from Lowes Home Improvement as well.

He built a little deck underneath the pond that holds the weight of the pond and protects the drain underneath. This can be build into the ground depending on the depth of your drain. Our pond sits high in our goose coop since we had lots of roots in the back of the coop. The decking is flush with the ground underneath the pond and the drain is dug about 1.5 feet underground.
